The precise measurement of pressure is a requirement of many applications in different fields of the market. From
an altimeter in the consumer area to gas meters in the industry to engine management in the automotive field, the
requirements of the application towards pressure range, accuracy and type of output signal will be different from
system to system.
With the long experience of Infineon as a semiconductor company, we are able to offer a wide portfolio of pressure
sensors of different types and different pressure ranges. Infineon’s integrated pressure sensor family uses a
unique design of multiple surface micro-machined capacitive sensor cell arrays, that allows implementation of
powerful features like sensor self diagnostics. The monolithic integration onto one chip allows a state-of-the-art
production using a standard automotive qualified BiCMOS process. The combination of sensor cell design with
fully digital signal conditioning and processing with the methods of a high volume standard production flow ensure
superior quality over lifetime.
Infineon’s pressure sensors can be classified as absolute pressure sensors, where the output signal is
proportional to the applied pressure, or relative pressure sensors, where the sensor output is proportional to a
change of the applied pressure. The following application note will give an overview about some new applications
in the market and will give some suggestions of Infineon’s pressure products.

Contrinex inductive sensors

Robust and highly reliable, Contrinex inductive sensors are the fit-and-forget choice for non-contact detection of metallic targets at distances up to 40 mm. Vacuum-encapsulated electronics and metal housings protect against shock, vibration, dust, dirt and moisture, making inductive sensors ideal for highly demanding conditions. An inductive sensor generates a magnetic field that is attenuated by a metal target. As a sensor nears its target, a sensing circuit detects the degree of attenuation and switches the output accordingly. Patented Condist® oscillator circuitry allows best-in-class operating distances, while all-metal construction – including the sensing face – is possible with revolutionary Condet® technology. Designers everywhere specify Contrinex inductive sensors as industrial limit switches and position switches, as pulse-counting devices, or for distance and speed measurement.

proximity sensor

A proximity sensor is a sensor able to detect the presence of nearby objects without any physical contact.
A proximity sensor often emits an electromagnetic field or a beam of electromagnetic radiation ( infrared, for instance), and looks for changes in the field or return signal. The object being sensed is often referred to as the proximity sensor's target. Different proximity sensor targets demand different sensors. For example, a capzcitive or photoelectric sensor might be suitable for a plastic target; an inductive proximity sensor always requires a metal target.
The maximum distance that this sensor can detect is defined "nominal range". Some sensors have adjustments of the nominal range or means to report a graduated detection distance.
Proximity sensors can have a high reliability and long functional life because of the absence of mechanical parts and lack of physical contact between sensor and the sensed object.
Proximity sensors are commonly used on smartphones to detect (and skip) accidental touchscreen taps when held to the ear during a call. They are also used in machine vibration monitoring to measure the variation in distance between a shaft and its support bearing. This is common in large steam turbines , compressors, and motors that use sleeve-type bearings.

Datexel manufactures a large range of head mounted temperature transmitters. Field proven and high accuracy are the ingredients in the Datexel range of head mount temperature transmitters. Low cost, fully isolated, PC programmable, direct or inverse output, up scale or down scale burn out are just some of the features available on the Datexel range of head mounted temperature transmitters.
Datexel also manufactures ATEX IS certified head mount temperature transmitters. The ATEX IS certified head mount temperature transmitters also have options for isolation, PC programmable, direct or inverse output, up scale or down scale burn out.
The DAT1010 head mount temperature transmitters convert RTD's (Pt100, Pt1000, Ni100 and Ni1000), Resistance up to 2000 Ohms, Potentiometers up to 2 K Ohms and mV up to 700mV. The DAT1015, DAT1061 and DAT1066 also convert Thermocouples with full linearization. The standard output of these transmitters is 4-20mA and they have a large voltage tolerance of 10 to 32 Vdc. The DAT1061 and DAT1066 provide an isolated output. The DAT1135 head mounted temperature converter has a voltage output. The DAT1010-OEM is a low cost temperature transmitter for RTD that can be fitted into other enclosures.

Ultrasonic transducers

Ultrasonic transducers are transducers  that convert ultrasound waves to electrical sounds or vice versa. Those that both transmit and receive may also be called ultrasound transceivers; many ultrasound sensors besides being sensors are indeed transceivers because they can both sense and transmit. These devices work on a principle similar to that of transducers used in radar and sonar systems, which evaluate attributes of a target by interpreting the echoes from radio or sound waves, respectively. Active ultrasonic sensors generate high-frequency sound waves and evaluate the echo which is received back by the sensor, measuring the time interval between sending the signal and receiving the echo to determine the distance to an object. Passive ultrasonic sensors are basically microphones that detect ultrasonic noise that is present under certain conditions, convert it to an electrical signal, and report it to a computer.
