distances up to 40 mm. Vacuum-encapsulated electronics and metal
housings protect against shock, vibration, dust, dirt and moisture,

inductive sensor generates a magnetic field that is attenuated by a
metal target. As a sensor nears its target, a sensing circuit detects

A proximity sensor often emits an electromagnetic field or a beam of electromagnetic radiation ( infrared, for instance), and looks for changes in the field or return signal. The object being sensed is often referred to as the proximity sensor's target. Different proximity sensor targets demand different sensors. For example, a capzcitive or photoelectric sensor might be suitable for a plastic target; an inductive proximity sensor always requires a metal target.
The maximum distance that this sensor can detect is defined "nominal range". Some sensors have adjustments of the nominal range or means to report a graduated detection distance.
Proximity sensors can have a high reliability and long functional life because of the absence of mechanical parts and lack of physical contact between sensor and the sensed object.

They are also used in machine vibration monitoring to measure the variation in distance between a shaft and its support bearing. Ultrasonic transducers
are transducers that convert ultrasound waves to electrical sounds or
vice versa. Those that both transmit and receive may also be called ultrasound transceivers; many ultrasound sensors besides being sensors
are indeed transceivers because they can both sense and transmit. These
devices work on a principle similar to that of transducers used in radar and sonar
systems, which evaluate attributes of a target by interpreting the
echoes from radio or sound waves, respectively. Active ultrasonic
sensors generate high-frequency sound waves and evaluate the echo which
is received back by the sensor, measuring the time interval between
sending the signal and receiving the echo to determine the distance to
an object. Passive ultrasonic sensors are basically microphones that
detect ultrasonic noise that is present under certain conditions,
convert it to an electrical signal, and report it to a computer.

The visitors of the International Trade Fair sps ipc drives 2014 in Nuremberg ranked the vision sensor VISOR® first.
Before, a jury consisting of the congress comitee of sps ipc drives, VDMA, ZVEI and the editorial department of the trade magazin „elektro AUTOMATION“ had nominated the socalled „BLOB“ function of SensoPart’s VISOR® vision sensor together with four other products for the Automation Award. During sps ipc drives 2014 in Nuremberg, the nominated products were presented to the professional audience who then voted for their favourite.
According to Konradin Verlag, the Automation Award is the most important prize in the automation sector. It is awarded to new and innovative products in the categories „Process Control & System Solutions“ and „Standard Components & Sensors“. In December 2014, SensoPart received the prize and the certificate at the awards ceremony in Leinfelden-Echterdingen.

There are two basic categories of analog pressure sensors,
Force collector types These types of electronic pressure sensors generally use a force collector (such a diaphragm, piston, bourdon tube, or bellows) to measure strain (or deflection) due to applied force (pressure) over an area.
These types of electronic pressure sensors use other properties (such as density) to infer pressure of a gas, or liquid.
Force collector types These types of electronic pressure sensors generally use a force collector (such a diaphragm, piston, bourdon tube, or bellows) to measure strain (or deflection) due to applied force (pressure) over an area.
- Piezoresistive strain gauge
- Uses the piezoresistive effect of bonded or formed strain gauges to detect strain due to applied pressure, resistance increasing as pressure deforms the material. Common technology types are Silicon (Monocrystalline), Polysilicon Thin Film, Bonded Metal Foil, Thick Film, and Sputtered Thin Film. Generally, the strain gauges are connected to form a wheatstone bridge circuit to maximize the output of the sensor and to reduce sensitivity to errors. This is the most commonly employed sensing technology for general purpose pressure measurement.
- Capacitive
- Uses a diaphragm and pressure cavity to create a variable capacitor to detect strain due to applied pressure, capacitance decreasing as pressure deforms the diaphragm. Common technologies use metal, ceramic, and silicon diaphragms.
- Electromagnetic
- Measures the displacement of a diaphragm by means of changes ininductance (reluctance), LVDT, Hall Effect, or by eddy current principle.
- Piezoelectric
- Uses the piezoelectric effect in certain materials such as quartz to measure the strain upon the sensing mechanism due to pressure. This technology is commonly employed for the measurement of highly dynamic pressures.
- Optical
- Techniques include the use of the physical change of an optical fiber to detect strain due to applied pressure. A common example of this type utilizes Fiber Bragg Gratings. This technology is employed in challenging applications where the measurement may be highly remote, under high temperature, or may benefit from technologies inherently immune to electromagnetic interference. Another analogous technique utilizes an elastic film constructed in layers that can change reflected wavelengths according to the applied pressure (strain).
- Potentiometric
- Uses the motion of a wiper along a resistive mechanism to detect the strain caused by applied pressure.
These types of electronic pressure sensors use other properties (such as density) to infer pressure of a gas, or liquid.
- Resonant
- Uses the changes in resonant frequency in a sensing mechanism to measure stress, or changes in gas density, caused by applied pressure. This technology may be used in conjunction with a force collector, such as those in the category above. Alternatively, resonant technology may be employed by exposing the resonating element itself to the media, whereby the resonant frequency is dependent upon the density of the media. Sensors have been made out of vibrating wire, vibrating cylinders, quartz, and silicon MEMS. Generally, this technology is considered to provide very stable readings over time.
- Thermal
- Uses the changes in thermal conductivity of a gas due to density changes to measure pressure. A common example of this type is the Pirani guage.
- Ionization
- Measures the flow of charged gas particles (ions) which varies due to density changes to measure pressure. Common examples are the Hot and Cold Cathode gauges.
